Since Blue Star Movies (BSM) was founded by Chairman, Pete Maggi (ex President of Eagle Pictures spa, Italy’s leading Film and TV Distribution independent) in 1999 in Rome, the company has successfully worked with many well-known co-producers and financiers as well as with new and established writing, directing and acting talent. As a result, Blue Star Movies has established itself as a successful European and international film production, finance business with offices in London and Rome. Blue Star Movies has also successfully acted as international and Italian sales agent for a number of selected productions.
To date Blue Star Movies credits for executive production, production, finance and sales include, Michael Radford’s ‘The Merchant Of Venice’ (Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Joseph Fiennes), John Duigan’s ‘Head In The Clouds’ (Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz and Stewart Townsend), ‘Evilenko’ (Malcolm MacDowell), ‘Piazza of The Five Moons’ (Donald Sutherland) and “Irresistible” (Susan Sarandon, Sam Neill and Emily Blunt). Other Blue Star Movies credits include, ‘Mother Theresa’ starring Olivia Hussey, ‘Hermano’ a European art-house movie and ‘Making Waves’ a British low-budget HD romantic comedy.
Key Blue Star Movies successes…
The $13 million bio-pic, ‘Mother Theresa’, took 40% of the peak time TV audience share when shown on Italian TV, ‘The Merchant of Venice’ ($25 million) was the top box office earner in its first week of theatrical release in Italy when released on over 200 screens and ‘Head In The Clouds’ ($12 million) was No. 1 at the Italian box office on its opening weekend.
Blue Star Movies has recently built up two innovative financial funds, “Independent Motion Picture Fund of America” based in Chicago USA and “The Movie Finance Fund” based in Montecarlo Europe.
